Photo Walk along Marina Bay and Singapore River (20-05-2017)

This photo walk is intended to compliment the IT Talk on “Digital Photo Management” on 6th May in Jurong Regional Library – the hands-on part. We will start from Raffles Place MRT and walk along Marina Bay to the Merlion Park. Then we walk along Cavenagh Bridge, crossing the Singapore River and walk along Singapore River, passing Raffles landing site and continue to Elgin Bridge. From here, we continue to walk along the Singapore River till we reach Clarke Quay MRT. For those who want to break off from here can do so or they can continue to walk till we reach Liang Court Departmental Store and have a dinner together.

For those interested in IT, you can continue to make a short movie with the pictures taken using Microsoft Windows Movie Maker (WMM). Workshops on WMM are scheduled on June 10th, 15th & 22nd in Bukit Merah Library and on July 6th, 13th & 20th in Jurong Regional Library. All workshops are free, please register with the National Library Board via (limited seats are available).

Creating a Family Budget Spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel Program

Excel is one of the Microsoft Office programs we can learn to create a family budget spreadsheet, a form of simplified financial planning. Some basic skills on how to use the Excel program to achieve the creation of the family budget will also be explained.

To understand family budget, we need first to understand what is quality family life.

What kind of Quality Family Life we want for the family. Everyone has a role to play in the family. Be it working smart to earn enough for the family, taking care of the children, spending quality time with the children and also know how to spend wisely. Make provisions for rainy days and save enough for the children’s future education.

There is no such thing as no time to learn something new to understand how “cash flow” can affect the quality of family life. It is just our priority has excluded that event. Sometimes, it is due to poor time management.

With some basic Microsoft Excel skills, we can share with you how a simple Family Budget spreadsheet can be created. If you have a laptop computer complete with the Microsoft Office application program, you can bring along to the class. Details of the session is as follows:

IT Talk – Digital Photo Management

This talk will explain what is aperture, shutter speed and distance (in-focus). The talk will also touch on how to take good quality and creative pictures, including composition.

Most of the details of the talk is also applicable to cameras on iPhone and Smartphone. The main difference is ~ most camera settings are automatically adjusted by the camera program in the smart devices.
